Hardie

Dr Darryl Hardie is the Cooperative Research Centre for National Plant Biosecurity's Program Leader for Surveillance Research.. Darryl is an Entomologist with many interests in this field and has published across a number of entomological areas.

 

Dr Hardie's background in plant biosecurity includes: development of the semi-quantitative Pest and Disease threat Questionnaires (PTQ/DTQ) used by Plant Health Australia (PHA) to assess Emergency Plant Pests (EPPs). He is the Surveillance Entomologist and an Activity Leader in the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia (DAFWA) where he is responsible for developing and maintaining trapping arrays for exotic fruit flies and other market access species. He also developed the Port and Urban Surveillance strategies for Western Australia with funding from DAFF (Australian Government - Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry).

 

Darryl currently has a national role in and represents the CRC and DAFWA on the Surveillance Reference Group of Australia (SRG), the National fruit Fly Strategy (NFFS) and the National Plant Health Surveillance Strategy (NPHSS).

 

He has previously been a member of the Fruit Fly Reference Group of Australia, the Western Australian representative as National Surveillance Coordinator to DAFF and a member of Chevron Australia's Gorgon Quarantine Advisory Committee (QAC). He has also been called upon to be operations manager or a similar role for several EPP incursions at a State and National level.

 

Darryl lives in Perth with his wife and two adult children.
