Rodney Walker is a Professor at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and Director of the Australian Research Centre for Aerospace Automation (ARCAA). He has a degree in Electrical Engineering and a degree in Computer Science. He completed his PhD on electromagnetic propagation modeling of satellite navigation systems at QUT and the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (UK).
Since 1997 he has been responsible for the joint GPS receiver development (with NASA JPL) on Australia’s first satellite program in over 30 years - FedSat. Since 1999 he has directed his attention towards enabling technologies for civilian UAVs. He has been involved in many Australian UAV initiatives including the review of the CASA 101 Civilian Airspace Regulations and is on the board of AUVS-Australia. Currently his team at ARCAA comprises over 30 staff and has attracted over $20M in research funding since 2004. He is also a private pilot with aerobatics endorsement.
