The newly formed Plant Biosecurity Cooperative Research Centre (‘PBCRC’) has been established to play a pivotal role in coordinating, leading and networking the national scientific effort to protect Australia against plant pests. Participants in PBCRC include all Australia’s major plant biosecurity research organisations, major end-users of plant biosecurity research and leading biosecurity organisations from New Zealand, the USA, Indonesia and United Kingdom.

The Program Coordinators will manage the science portfolios of specific research programs in alignment with the PBCRC’s Strategic Plan and will ensure that the programs are delivering against their agreed objectives. Critical for success in the roles will be the need to build strong working relationships with Australian and international researchers.

THE ROLE

• Assist in pursuing Program Research priorities and work with end-users, Program Leaders and researchers to identify needs to scope and implement projects in line with science objectives.
• Monitor and report on program/projects performance and work with research teams to ensure delivery of all reporting and contracting requirements.
• Work closely with the Delivery Innovation Manager to ensure the delivery and adoption of science outputs.
• Participate as a member of the Science Committee which oversees the science portfolio and manage an end-user Advisory Panel (Horticulture or Grains Advisory Panel).

THE REQUIREMENTS

• Demonstrated experience in the development and management of programs and multiple projects, preferably in a science field or other highly regulated environment
• Knowledge of plant biosecurity issues and good empathy with primary industry stakeholders/producers
• Dynamic self-starter with an ability to work independently and cooperatively with teams from diverse organisations
• Formal qualifications in agriculture or science – an understanding of the Australian Government’s Cooperative Research Centre Program’s technical and political landscape would be well regarded
